JOINING PNB'S CELEBRATION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY

Note: Please note that the 210 PNB Branch signage pictures here are arranged chronologically (in the order they were visited) rather than alphabetically.

On the 100th year anniversary of my former employer for nine (9) years, the Philippine National Bank (PNB), I am delighted to share a hobby which I have been doing since I was connected with this universal bank. The branches I visited knew me exactly as as "Benedict Mary P. Ambos, the traveler. To be exact, PNB's 100th anniversary will be on July 22, 2016. I was obsessed with this hobby that I’ve kept myself travelling then from all over the Philippines just to have PNB Branch signage picture as part of my collection photos.

As a summary, I have been to the 70 of the 81 provinces of the Philippines of which the two provinces of Tarlac and Surigao del Sur have PNB Branches which I have not visited while the nine other provinces have no PNB branches as of that time, namely: Compostela Valley, Davao Occidental, Dinagat Island, Guimaras, Siquijor, Sarangani, Quirino, Aurora and Lanao del Norte. On the other hand, I have been to 98 cities and 71 municipalities of the Philippines just because of this project. However, I have toured to four of the nine provinces with no PNB branches, namely: Quirino, Aurora, Siquijor, and Guimaras.

I think it was just a matter of gratitude why I have been doing it. Absolutely, I consider my PNB career as the highest peak of my working career and the peak of my travels, mountain scaling and I my relationship to God then was much, much closer. Why not? PNB Financial Center has its own Capilla del Sto.Niňo where noon masses are celebrated. I was also active then as a member of the Singles for Christ Metro Manila South A-2 Corporate Chapter. And not only that, it has its own free gym where I go three times a week after office hours. Life then for me was like a bunch of roses. It was pretty much happier than today.

To date, I have visited a total of 210 PNB branches nationwide. The first provincial branch I visited was the Puerto Princesa last April 7, 1996. Since then, I made it a habit to visit branches whenever I have out-of-town trips. As a summary, I have visited: 7 branches in 1996; 7 branches in 1997; 4 branches in 1998; 9 branches in 1999; 51 branches in 2000; 81 branches in 2001 including 14 Metro Manila branches; 46 branches in 2002 including 1 Metro Manila branch; 1 in 2003; 1 in 2007; 1 in 2011 and 2 in 2012.

I had visited the branches of Bicol Region, Western Visayas and Cagayan Valley. I have actual visits in some PNB branches like Sta. Cruz (Laguna), Boni, Romblon, Pagadian and Yllana Bay Extension Office but I don’t have pictures to support them due to camera technical problems and Macabebe which has no signage yet when I visited it twice.

PNB Puerto Princesa Branch (Palawan - April 7, 1996)

Please note that all my PNB Branch Signage pictures are posted here chronologically starting with PNB Puerto Princesa Branch up to the last branch which is the PNB Marawi.

PNB Ilo-Ilo Branch (Ilo-ilo City, Ilo-ilo - November 6, 1996)

I have seriously considered visiting PNB branches for the year 2001 when I have scheduled trips just for this sole purpose. On April 1, 2001, I have visited all the branches in Batangas and three in the province of Laguna. While on April 14, 2001, I visited 5 branches in Bulacan.

PNB Jaro Branch (Ilo-ilo City, Ilo-ilo - November 6, 1996)

April 28, 2001 was even a hectic day for me for I have visited nine branches of Pampanga including Macabebe which I decided not to have a picture because its signage was destroyed by a typhoon.

PNB Plaza Libertad Branch (Ilo-ilo City, Ilo-ilo - November 7, 1996)

My June 2-4, 2001 trip to Occidental and Oriental Mindoro was purely intended for branch’s signage picture taking though I enjoyed my whole trip due to meeting new friends and took advantage in visiting a former officemate in PNB Makati Avenue Branch in the name of Ma. Jeannette C. Vale who is assigned in PNB Pinamalayan Branch.

PNB Silay Branch (Silay, Negros Occidental - November 7, 1996)

I even had enough time to visit again PNB Batangas Branch to re-shoot my picture there and finally went to PNB Sta. Rosa Branch in Laguna because a former PNB Makati Avenue Branch officemate was assigned there and he served as my photographer in the person of Apple Ongleo.

PNB Luzuriaga Branch (Bacolod City, Negros Occidental - November 7, 1996)

For October 31 to November 13, 2001, I was able to cover all PNB branches for the whole of Region VIII composed of the provinces of Samar, Leyte and Biliran for a total of 12 branches broken down into: Samar – 5; Leyte – 6; and Biliran – 1. It included PNB Calbayog Branch which is my hometown.

PNB Bacolod Branch (Bacolod City, Negros Occidental - November 7, 1996)

In an other tour dated November 30 to December 3, 2001, I covered all the branches in the provinces of Pangasinan and the Ilocos Region which totalled to 12 branches broken down into: Pangasinan – 5; La Union – 2; Ilocos Sur – 2; Abra – 1; and Ilocos Norte – 2. That was my third time to visit Pangasinan and second time to be in the Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

PNB Limketkai Branch (Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental - April 12, 1997)

My February 23-24, 2002 Mt. Mariveles (Tarak) Climb in Bataan has given me the opportunity to visit all PNB provincial branches of Bataan with four and another four in Zambales and extended my trip until February 25.

PNB Malaybalay Branch (Malaybalay City, Bukidnon - April 13, 1997)

I was alone in the whole duration of the trip and my photographers were all branches’ guard. Of the PNB Branches I visited, Balanga City of Bataan and Sta. Cruz of Northern part of Zambales were the most memorable ones since I had their a whirlwind romance. I revisited PNB Balanga on April 7, 2002 to have a better shot on its branch’s signage.

PNB Mambajao Branch (Municipality of Mambajao, Camiguin de Mindanao - April 14, 1997)

My June 1-17, 2002 Mindanao Trip has indeed gave me the opportunity to visit 39 PNB provincial branches and considerably the highest branch visits I ever made. I had completed visiting the 28 branches in Southern Mindanao. However, my visit to two (2) branches in Pagadian City like the Pagadian and Yllana Bay Extension Office had unfortunately yielded no pictures due to camera’s technical problems.

PNB Iligan Branch (Iligan City, Lanao del Norte - April 16, 1997)

It was my desire to travel to Africa who triggered me to avail of the early retirement in PNB with effectivity on May 20, 2002. It was an international consultancy job where got a job pack as Programme Management Adviser for village banking in Uganda, East Africa thru the London-based VSO and stayed there for the period June 21, 2002 to September 10, 2003.

I started this hobby when PNB was just having almost 300 branches nationwide but last February 2013, PNB and Allied Bank merged where it became the 4th largest private domestic bank in terms of combined total assets. As of March 31, 2016, its consolidated assets has amounted to P699.1 Billion with a total of 669 branches and offices and 954 ATMs strategically located nationwide. Its overseas presence can also be felt across Asia, Europe, Middle East and North America for having 70 overseas branches and offices.

  2. OMG!!! I can't believe you traveled that far just for this hobby of taking PNB Branch signage picture all throughout the Philippines. This must be a record.

  3. This is a great accomplishment and you should have an award for this. These pictures show that you really love PNB.
Your last PNB picture was taken 4 yrs. ago and you should continue this amazing activity. I love your PNB Passi & Baguio pictures because you showed not only the signage but also the people in those places. Of course, my favorite is your PNB Ortigas Branch picture because it's very colorful and the photographer's shot was really good (ha! ha! ha!).
Bien, yout next target - PNB overseas branches?

    1. Lynn, why can't you just say that you are my photographer in PNB Ortigas Branch? Thanks for your contribution in this project along with all other people involved in this project to make this a reality. PNB Overseas branches? Why not? I will ask Mr. Lucio Tan to fund this project.

    2. I took that very impressive, wonderful, awesome, mind-blowing, marvelous, spectacular, jaw-dropping and superb picture? I don't remember (charot!!!!). Well, that's my only contribution because you didn't trust me as a photographer before. Actually, up to now... (ek-ek lang!)
The last time we were together (Ma'am Susan's birthday in Peking Garden on June 11, 2016), I was afraid to hold your very expensive camera.
Mr. Lucio Tan is the owner of PAL & PNB. Yes, it would be nice if he can support your project.
Don't worry, I will try to enroll in a photography class. I will practice everything that I will learn from my instructors so that I will be worthy to be your photographer. Who knows, I might be your official photographer in your international trips.

    3. Lynn, I wish Mr. Lucio Tan can read this blog post and my only wish is for him to award me a high-tech DLSR cam and the latest GoPro Cam and I am willing to pursue PNB Branch Signage Picture Project on its latest count of 669 branches as PNB has already merged with Allied Bank.

    1. LJ, you have such an inspiring comment that definitely would push me beyond my limits to continue my quest to explore all other places in the Philippines. Absolutely, I thank PNB for making my journey in accumulating these branch signage pictures easier because of the very supportive pnb branch managers whom their branch I had visited. I will always cherish my pnb experience that until now its working and corporate culture I have already assimilated in the new working environment (s). I am proud to be a Philnabanker and will always be.
