Location: Zone 4 Amparo Road, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, Philippines
This is a part of my Camiguin de Mindanao/Cagayan de Oro/Misamis Oriental/Bukidnon trip which was hosted by my best friend, Rome Frias in Cagayan de Oro City and sponsored by another best friend, Alan A. Valenzuela.
One of our destinations then was this Divine Mercy Shrine for Catholic devotees and pilgrims. It features a 50-foot statue of Jesus as the Divine Mercy as the focal point of Divine Mercy Hills. The shrine itself was erected on a tract of land overlooking Macajalar Bay on the southern island of Mindanao.
The shrine is erected in a nine-hectare land which was purchased for a nominal amount and the complex was paid for by donations. It was completed in 2008 and serves as a pilgrimage site for Divine Mercy devotees.
This place is very accessible since it is only 40 minutes drive away from Cagayan de Oro City for a distance of 22 kilometers via Butuan-Cagayan de Oro-iligan Road.
You will wonder why I am wearing a blue skirt. The rule within the complex is nobody will bear short pants for both men and women guests. In case they do, they will be given a blue skirt wherein the blue color symbolizes Virgin Mary.
Guests can get closer to the image of the Divine Mercy to His heart since the rays of His heart extending down to the ground serve as the stairs where guests can climb.
HOW TO GO THERE
Take any daily flight from Manila to Cagayan de Oro City. From there, board either a van or bus bound for Iligan City. There is also a jeepney from Cagayan de Oro City bound for El Salvador in Misamis Oriental.
